Memento follows Leonard Shelby, a man suffering from anterograde amnesia, a condition that causes him to be unable to form new memories. Leonard is determined to find the man who raped and murdered his wife, but with each new day, he wakes up with no memory of the previous day's events. To cope with his condition, Leonard relies on a system of Polaroid photos and tattoos to piece together clues and remember important information.
