Criminal Minds revolves around the BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit), a team of FBI profilers who use their knowledge of the human mind to get into the heads of the worst criminals — and catch them.
The offenders who on other shows would merit a special event or multi-parter — serial killers who taunt the cops, school shooters, child abductors — are just this week's "UnSub" (Unknown Subject) to this team.
Personal Thoughts
With the caveat that I haven't seen the newest season since the show's restart, I have to say this is one of my favorite procedural shows. The evolving cast keeps introducing new flavors of profiling greatness, while relying on series staples throughout the entire run. The BAU travels around the country, which keeps things fresh. They outthink the smartest criminals, and solve cases with seemingly no motive to save the next victim. This show is a fascinating glimpse into profiling done right: analyzing and predicting behavioral patterns.
